Yayasan Pulau Orang Utan Bukit Merah

Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island (BMOUI) was set up as ex-situ conservation to aid in the conservation of Orangutans of Malaysia. From the initial three (3) Orangutans it expanded to a maximum of 16 Orangutans providing a valuable family to undertake research and education into what is now a critically endangered species. BMOUI serves as a referral centre for many leading local and international universities. On December 27, 2018 BMOUI suffered a fire to its Education Theatre Room, Lakeside Café’, De Shoppe (souvenir shop), Store Rooms, Finance Office, Departure Jetty and other eco-tourist facility. Fortunately none of the Orangutans or staffs was affected.
