We are a group of hiking buddies from "The Best You - Walk With God" group that was started in Year 2020. We organise 2 hikes per week and the hikes primarily focus on good health and physical fitness. However, this time round, we want to attempt to hike/climb for a good cause. To help raise funds for a project to set up learning centres and community mobile toy libraries, in the remote villages of Sabah, Sarawak and the Thai-Myanmar border.Your kind and generous monetary donations will go towards supporting:Purchase of new or/and preloved toys, educational toys, children's books, games and board games. We believe education should be the fundamental rights of every individual regardless of their predicament or status. The need was informed to us by our friends who have been involved in the work of teaching and empowering teachers from the Orang Asal community - who in turn will teach students in the rural areas to read, write and count, using educational games, toys and children's books. The students are underprivileged native Orang Asal and migrant children who don't have access to basic education and learning resources. The objective of the Toy Libraries is to provide educational games, books and learning materials for equipping learning centres and mobile libraries in rural villages. We have identified 3 main areas in Sabah, Sarawak and the Thai-Myanmar border. We will be helping to empower and teach these children from the ages of 6 to 12 years old to get the basics of surviving in this modern world. Books and Toys have been used for centuries to teach young children in many countries across the world. We are a group of students from the School of Medical & Life Sciences, Sunway University and as a part of our MU4 2432 Community Service course, we are collaborating with Play Unlimited organization in effort to fulfil several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):1. SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing2. SDG 4: Quality Education3. SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities4. SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & ProductionAbout our project - TOYS4JOY x PLAYSo often, we focus on aiding underprivileged communities by donating money, food, and care packages, yet we often neglect the social needs of the children in these communities. Hence, we decided to focus on aiding these communities to create positive social-emotional development for them by providing access to toys and learning materials through recycling and upcycling pre-loved toys. We believe in the power of "A World of Learning Through Play". The aim of our community project is simple and comprehensive, to provide equal access to vital early education for underprivileged communities, all the while, prioritising a greener future by reducing unwanted toys in landfills. Our Fundraising PageBesides the upcycling and recycling activity, we are also initiating this fundraising page to collect as much money as we can to help these children in getting what they deserve - A HEALTHY & HAPPY CHILDHOOD. We truly appreciate every form of support. By donating a minimum of RM10, you would personally be responsible for empowering a child's mental, emotional and physical health. Every penny counts!
