Greenpeace
Why does this matter to Malaysians? As you are likely aware, haze pollution remains a pressing environmental and health crisis across Southeast Asia. For years, haze originating from illegal forest fires in Indonesia has impacted the air quality in neighboring countries, particularly Malaysia. Communities have suffered from respiratory illnesses, schools have closed, and businesses have been disrupted due to toxic air caused by these preventable fires. What is Greenpeace doing on the ground? In South Sumatra, our dedicated Tim Cegah Api team has been working closely with local communities to combat this issue. Recently, villagers from Lebung Itam took a bold step by submitting a lawsuit to the Palembang District Court, demanding compensation for the environmental damage they’ve endured. This landmark case represents a new chapter in Indonesia’s peatland restoration efforts as these communities fight to hold large polluters accountable. We believe this campaign has the power to create lasting change, not just for the environment but for the lives of the people who call these areas home. However, we cannot do it alone. We are inviting you to become a key supporter of this movement. Your generous contribution will:Empower local communities to advocate for their rights.Support our brave firefighters as they battle the blazes on the ground.Provide critical first aid and resources to vulnerable groups.Strengthen the campaign to demand accountability from major polluters.
