Fundraising for:
Harrow International School Foundation Limited
Hello! My name is Max Kwan. The Long Ducker is a Harrow fundraising tradition that stretches back over 400 years. Since 1977, boys in Harrow School would run 10 miles from Harrow School to Marble Arch in London. In Harrow Hong Kong, a 15.8 km run would usually have been completed on the MacLehose Trail Section 10 that runs behind the school and stretches through Tai Lam Chung. Unfortunately, due to the situation, we have not been able to participate in the run this year but we have still been able to attempt a virtual challenge. We were challenged to complete the approximate distances of the Mini Ducker, the Short Ducker or the Long Ducker (see below). I completed and exceeded the distance of the Long Ducker by completing a biathlon - 16.79 km of cycling and 2.03 km of running. I managed to complete 16km of cycling in 58 minutes and 50 seconds! It is very important that we support these charities especially in times of need, like in the current situation. Any amount of donation is appreciated. Thank you!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg8jYoVFhaE Youtube LinkLong Ducker is one of the charitable traditions taken from Harrow School in England. Every year at Harrow, boys, teachers, Old Harrovians and parents combine to organise and undertake a charity-sponsored run, the Long Ducker. Now in its ninth year, the Hong Kong version usually takes place annually along a 16km route on the MacLehose trail that runs immediately behind the School. The alternative 8km Short Ducker & Mini Ducker, allows participation of the whole school community. On Saturday 12 March 2022, we hope the Harrow Hong Kong community will join us in completing the Virtual Long Ducker! Due to the ongoing situation with the Covid-19 Pandemic, the event will take place virtually, and we hope to continue the success of the Virtual Long Ducker 2021. We wish for this event to enable the community to come together, albeit virtually, and raise funds for our School Charities. Therefore, we would like the community to travel the following distance of their choice. This could be completed in a variety of ways, walking, running, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding, rowing and swimming to name a few; we encourage you to be as inventive with how you complete this virtual version of the Ducker! To help inspire the imagination, there will even be a prize for the most creative Ducker! At the end of the chosen distance, each participant must be able to provide evidence of the distance completed and the date. This could be done by using any tracking device, pedometer, Fit Bit, Apple watch or MapMyRun-style app. Google Earth is a great resource if you would like to plan out the distance prior to the challenge. Now more than ever, our charities are in desperate need of our support. If you are participating in the Virtual Long Ducker, you can create your own fundraising page with a profile photo and a short message to invite friends to support you by donating to your page. Click on Start Fundraising to create your personalised pages. Furthermore, Upper School pupils will be invited to join their House teams, and there will be a competition to see which House can raise the most funds. Choose the House Team that you are in (listed on the leaderboard below), click to go to the House Team Fundraising Page, and click on "Join". The School will donate HKD1000 to the winning House's charity, the highest fundraiser; the House will also receive a trophy! We will also hold a competition to see which two pupils in the Lower School and Upper School can raise the most funds for our School Charities. The School will donate HKD1000 to the charities of the two winning pupils. DIRECT DONATIONS - Click on the green "Donate Now" button. Our Charities need you. In 2021, the School raised HKD410,809.
