BacaBaca focusses on helping children with dyslexia due to illness, especially children from low-income families. Due to different acquired conditions, the reading ability of these children has been seriously affected. The project not only focusses on improving the reading ability of Malay and English, but also focusses on cultivating students' learning habits and self-confidence. BacaBaca is committed to improving students' concentration and reading comprehension through customised teaching methods. The goal of the project is to ensure that these children can not only keep up with the learning progress of their peers, but also cultivate the ability of lifelong learning, laying a good foundation for future academic and career development.

In our team, there are several people who have served as volunteers in remote mountainous areas in China. The geographical location there is remote, the economic conditions are backward, and the educational conditions are very limited. The children are eager for knowledge, but they cannot afford the cost of going to school due to their family conditions. We found that there is a similar situation in Malaysia. Therefore, we formed a team to raise funds for such children through activities to improve their current situation.

Hello and Assalamualaikum!I am Anis Zaydi, one of the reading coaches in Projek BacaBaca.As the name suggests, Projek BacaBaca is an initiative to reduce learning poverty in Malaysia, by helping primary school children from B40 families learn to read at grade level. It is very important for children to master reading skills early on so they can learn and perform better academically. Students with poor reading skills are more likely to drop out as they struggle to understand the curriculum which may lead to bigger issues such as unemployment and poverty in the future. Phase 1 of Projek BacaBaca showed impressive result, of which most of the children are now able to read independently. We are currently in Phase 2 and we hope to continue this project to many more phases, and you could help us. Your donation (any amount is fine!) help sustain this project, allowing us to reach more underserved children in Malaysia, improving their reading proficiency and their future as well. Thank you! Projek BacaBaca is a project aimed towards supporting underprivileged learners to read at their grade level, which opens up greater avenue for them to learn better. Hey there, I am Tharani, the project officer of Projek BacaBaca. Being part of this project for over a year have made me realise the importance of reading for these students in order to change their current trajectory of education for betterment. The improvements these students are and will be making in this project might just be the single most life-altering support they would be getting in their entire education journey. Projek BacaBaca is a volunteer-based initiative established under Taylor's University School of Education and led by a group of passionate individuals aiming to tackle learning poverty in Malaysia. Individual, tailor-made reading sessions in English and Bahasa Melayu are provided to children aged 6–9 living in poverty to enable them to read at grade level. I am honoured to be one of the reading coaches that has been helping children from the B40 households since April 2022 this year and am excited to see the progress that we have made throughout the 7 months up until now. We are currently raising awareness in the community to support children's literacy by either volunteering to be a reading coach or donating any amount of funds that one can afford.
