Hi friends! I am running 10k at the Standard Chartered Marathon 2025. Appreciate if you support me by making a donation to The Zubin Foundation, the charity that I work for. We work to improve the lives of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. Below is a story about one of the many service users that we support:Supporting The Zubin Foundation means Supporting Kahil (age 8)We are working with a young ethnic minority boy, age 8. let’s call him Kahil. Kahil is at the end of his life- he receives weekly support at The Zubin Foundation- arts and crafts, maths and English. He misses 2 days a week of school as he needs to be in hospital for blood transfusions. We have been working with him for a year, and keeping him out to speed with his lessons, he loves coming to Zubin’s Family Centre. He had been in hospital for the last 2 months and we hadn’t seen him for a while. He is now back at home and came to the Centre early this morning. His smile was priceless, he had missed us and we had missed him! We are privileged to work with ethnic minority children at the end of their lives.The work we do for Kahil and others in his situation is made possible through donations and I am grateful for all your support.

I'm lacing up my shoes for the Standard Chartered Marathon in Hong Kong, but this run is about so much more than just finishing a race. I'm raising funds for the Zubin Foundation, a cause that's incredibly close to my heart and started by my sister-in-law. This foundation works tirelessly to fight discrimination and promote social justice, issues that I’ve seen affect so many in our community.My passion for this cause comes from personal experience. Being married to someone from an ethnic minority, I've witnessed firsthand the effects of racism and discrimination in our city. I've seen talented, kind people sidelined simply because of their background, and it breaks my heart. I believe that by standing up and working together, we can make a real difference.Every step I take in this marathon is a stand against injustice. With every mile, I’m running for a more inclusive society—a society where everyone has the chance to thrive, no matter who they are or where they come from. I'm not new to running - but the body creaks a little more than it used to! Last year I dusted off my running shoes and completed the half marathon in HK in just over 2 hours - I would love to see if I can sneak under that 2 hour mark but with a few niggles and the season flu training has not been what it should! Nevertheless I am joining friends and clients as they also challenge themselves in a variety of distances on 9th February to raise money for the Zubin foundation. The whole marathon experience is uplifting, you feel part of a unified team - all helping each other to get round... to support each other and to use the event to raise awareness and funds for those that really need it. Within Hong Kong there is a huge gap between Hong Kong's richest and poorest residents (which we often don't see!) - this is especially true for the the marginalised ethnic minority communities in Hong Kong.Many individuals navigate their own challenging 'marathons' in life, facing racial and gender biases, language barriers, mental health struggles and stigmas, health issues, special educational needs, disabilities, and various other obstacles. The Zubin Foundation 10 Years of Transforming Lives of Hong Kong’s Ethnic MinoritiesAs we celebrate our 10th year, The Zubin Foundation is more determined than ever to improve the lives of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities. Over the past decade, we have transformed lives by reducing suffering and providing opportunities to Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities. Our ten-year anniversary is a powerful reminder that poverty in our community continues to rise and thousands of individuals are in need of support, whether women victims of domestic violence, elderly individuals living alone, or children facing mental health problems. We are grateful to Standard Chartered for providing us with available slots to raise funds for our work. The Zubin Foundation is an integrated service provider for Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities, supporting 12,000 service users in 2023 with a core team of 28 staff.Empowering WomenMeenali is 48 years old and, for her married life, has been the victim of coercive control by her mother-in-law and husband. She was not allowed to leave home on her own and has been emotionally and physically abused for decades. In 2022, she called our helpline, Call Mira, and began to receive counselling. She began to develop self-care and self-confidence and with support from us, she started to work from home making handicrafts. She now earns a nominal income, and her status in her family has changed. She says that her relationship with her in-laws and husband has changed, and she feels respected.When times are tough, it is those on the margins that suffer the most and we ask you to help us help them. Chi Heng Foundation (CHF) was founded in 1998 and is a registered charity in Hong Kong (IR File No.: 91/6187) The philosophy of "Chi Heng" is to put "Wisdom into Action" to help the underprivileged. CHF's work in China focuses on providing comprehensive care and support to AIDS impacted children and also underprivileged students suffering from poverty, illness and/or discrimination. CHF provides education, life and psychological counseling for orphans and destitute children, changing their destiny through education.
