Last year I was introduced to Pushpa Basnet and the Early Childhood Development Centre through a documentary called "Waiting for Mamu" produced by my friend Thomas A. Morgan. In Nepal, if a parent is sentenced to prison and they lack a guardian for their child, the child is imprisoned with the parent. Many of these children go to prison at a young age and are released to the world at age 18, with no life skills or support system, knowing nothing of the world but what they experienced in a jail cell. The documentary short film, Waiting for Mamu, shares the story of what it means for a child to grow up in prison and yet find hope in unlikely places. This film captures the hope of children to be free from prison, even if just for the day, to find a childhood, and to find Pushpa Basnet, known as Mamu by the children. Pushpa Basnet, the 2012 CNN Hero of the Year, first started a day care program for these children and later successfully created a permanent home, the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) a non-profit organization in Kathmandu, Nepal. Pushpa Basnet runs the ECDC and gives kids the chance to be kids and have an education. Additionally, she and her organization work to strengthen the rights of children living behind bars with their incarcerated parents.

去年我是通过我的朋友托马斯·摩根的公司制做“等待马目”的纪录片而认识普什帕巴斯内特和幼儿发展中心。在尼泊尔，如果父母被判处监禁而他们的孩子如果没有监护人，孩子也会和父母一起被监禁。许多孩子在年幼的时候就被关进监狱，到18岁才被释放，没有任何生活技能或援助机构，生活在一无所知的世界里，他们只有牢房的经验。这部纪录短片 ”等待马目” 叙述着一个孩子在监狱成长，而在不可能的地方发现曙光的故事。这部影片抓住了孩子们向往自由，哪怕只是一天，去寻找童年，并寻找到普什帕巴斯内特，孩子们心目中的马目。普什帕巴斯内特， CNN 2012年度的英雄，开始于为这些孩子创办日托计划到后来为这些孩子成功创建一个永久的家，幼儿发展中心（ECDC），一个在尼泊尔加德满都的非盈利性组织。普什帕巴斯内特管理ECDC让孩子们能有成为孩子的机会和接受教育。此外，她和她的机构，加强了与父母一起被监禁孩子们应有的权利。
