My Story
If not now, then when?
Hello MCO 2.0 ! We're in the second wave of Covid-19 in Malaysia, but fight against the climate crisis is still not going anywhere. It's the perfect time to support Greenpeace Malaysia's campaign for #BETTERNORMAL, A Better Malaysia.
GREENPEACE MALAYSIA CAMPAIGN
The Recycling Myth
- The investigative report 'The Recycling Myth' was released in July/August 2019 by Greenpeace Malaysia. In 2017, China banned the plastic waste importation from developed countries and that's how some Southeast Asia countries starts to facing these sick "recycle" problems, including Malaysia.
- The plastic wastes that are supposed to be recycle, ended up being burned and dumped in the industrial and housing areas, especially in Klang areas. Just imagine, how unhealthy it could be for the community to survive in their daily lives.
- In November 2018, Greenpeace Malaysia pushed the Selangor State Government to take action. And within 6 months, we manage to shut down illegal operators in Klang area, as well manage to sent back the plastic waste to the original countries.
- But the issues are still happening in Northern part of Malaysia including Penang, Perak and Kedah. In May 2020, 'The recycling Myth 2.0' was released. The investigation finds out about the after effect of plastics burning and plastic dumping in Port Klang area as well in Sungai Muda, Kedah.
- Greenpeace still fighting for this issue especially in the Northern part of Malaysia.
