My Story
Penang Peace Learning Centre (PPLC) is a Rohingya refugee school in Penang which started since 2013 by a USM lecturer. Everyone close to the lecturer has been very passionate to support better education for refugee children for
the past five years. We can see potential in these students where they always
participate well in the class. They are not afraid to ask questions. They always ask
if they are doing okay in class. It's exciting!
To achieve a better school management is by paying their salary every month. I have been voluntaring my time with the school management from time to time when I am not continuing my studies. But I am not able to stay in Penang any longer and going to migrate soon. Now, I am training one of our students to take over my position.
For quite some time, we only have two teachers that are taking care of 5 levels of class every weekdays from 8.30am to 12.30pm. It is impossible to give our entire attention to two or three classes at the same time. We are looking for teachers for each class that we are able to pay their monthly salary.
Vocational training will be helpful for Rohingya children as their status in Malaysia as refugees. Refugees in Malaysia are not allowed to work or go to a government school until UNHCR relocate them to a third country that they could attain citizenship. The process takes a long time and there are many refugees in Malaysia. While they are here, it is beneficial for them to learn sewing, fix bicycle, do carpenting or baking for their survival.
We know that with your donation, we can do more for them. To be able to create a better environment for the children which includes management, teachers, vocational training, school rent and utilities will give them the motivation to excel in life. And that is what a child should think, thatthey are great, can do better and achieve in life in any kind of situation.
