2020 Prudential RideLondon Charity Ride for Plan International

On 16 August, 26 Prudential employees from Asia will take on the 100-mile and 46-mile challenge at Prudential RideLondon to help raise funds for our charity partner, Plan International. Prudential plc will match all donations raised by each rider up to £250. We invite you to support this cause by making a donation.

About Our Beneficiary

Asia-Pacific remains the world’s most disaster-prone region. Children typically represent 50 to 60 per cent of those affected by disasters, whether through loss of life or from diseases related to malnutrition and poor water and sanitation.

Prudence Foundation, in partnership with Plan International, has been supporting Safe Schools, a disaster risk reduction capacity-building programme which provides children with the vital knowledge and skills to survive natural disasters. The programme now focuses on Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines, and aims to share best practice and knowledge with other countries in Southeast Asia.

The funds raised will save lives of children and ensure education continuity by:

• supporting the risk reduction and resilience education to children through development of child-friendly learning materials and facilitation of peer-to-peer education
• strengthening the school curriculum on disaster risk reduction
• building the capacity of the school teachers and government officials on Safe Schools models
• developing innovative technology to support the school disaster management and education
• facilitating school emergency preparedness and response plans as well as education continuity plans
• raising public awareness of school safety through campaigns and child-led forums
• conducting evidence-based research to advocate the governments at sub-national and national levels to institutionalise our child participatory Safe Schools models
• promoting Safe Schools in the ASEAN region

Safe Schools falls under a world-wide and ASEAN initiative, focused on making students, teachers and the local community more resilient to natural disasters. It helps to address the targets of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development Goals. The programme is also supporting the Ministry of Education in the Philippines to develop a comprehensive Safe Schools ecosystem which will support a holistic approach in the implementation of the programme to all schools across the country. Year to date, over 90,000 students have participated, together with over 43,000 teachers and community members also directly benefiting. Safe Schools also has the potential to indirectly benefit over 200,000 community members from the outcomes of the programme.
