Do you know?
Malaysia extracts 18.375 billion liters of raw water daily, but faces a potential water crisis as demand is projected to rise by 103% by 2050. With 97% of this water sourced from increasingly polluted rivers, the number of rivers has declined from 579 in 2008 to 477 in 2019, including 25 ‘dead’ rivers where aquatic life cannot survive. Despite these challenges, average household water usage exceeds 220 liters per day, reflecting a lack of conservation efforts among citizens and a need for greater awareness and action on water pollution issues.
Aqua Allies is a volunteering project based on SDG6: Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 14: Life Below Water, which aims to raise awareness about water quality issues by encouraging action-driven initiatives to the communities to properly manage wastewater and by promoting educational materials. At the same time, it provides a platform for you to contribute your part to spread awareness on SDG 6 and 14 to the community.
