Louie is climbing Mount Batur to raise money to help the local street dogs on our road in Bali

My Story

Louie Ball, aged 8, is going to climb Mount Batur to raise money to help keep the dogs on our street healthy.

Dogs and street dogs are all over Bali and the problem is huge. Whilst Louie can’t fix the entire island he has decided to start with the street dogs in his neighbourhood.

Just as we were leaving to go to school a tiny fluffy puppy came running out to him to say hello. Louie’s heart was broken when he saw the state of the poor dog’s condition. He was covered in ticks and fleas and he clearly wasn’t being looked after or vaccinated. He needed some real help from a vet.

A lot of the problem is that people just get dogs for security and then leave them to fend for themselves including finding food.

Louie is partnering with BAWA (Bali Animal Welfare Association) to set up a dog healthcare day here on our street.

BAWA will come here, speak to the local dog owners to raise awareness and give education. They will also treat up to 20 dogs that day, whether that is vaccinations, removing ticks and for some of the female dogs will be spay neutered to put a halt to the uncontrolled breeding that happens here.

We know this won’t solve the problem in Bali but it will leave our little corner of the world better off than we found it. Making it safer for children, the locals and other pets in the area. And hopefully Louie can inspire some others to see what they can do in their area.

On the climb; Mount Batur is 1717 metres high, which is 342 metres higher than the tallest peak in the UK, Ben Nevis. The weather here is very hot and humid and the climb is steep and relentless. It will be a really tough climb for Louie but he is determined to do this and no matter how long it takes he will climb it. We will do the climb on Tuesday 5th April early in the morning.

If you’re not a dog lover please sponsor this to support Louie. He has never tried to raise money for charity before and will love having your backing and messages of support.

Thank you x
