"Spirit of Giving" is a crowdfunding campaign organised by a group of 10 students from INTI International College Subang, MPU3442 Community Service, class of January 2020.
The objectives of this campaign:
1. To minimise any negative impact of life changes on wellbeing and poverty of single parents and their children.
2. To maximise the choices and opportunities for single parents and their children to flourish.
3. To build acceptance and celebration of diverse families in wider society.
Reasons for choosing this project:
Single parents’ finances are often tight and single parent families face a particularly high risk of poverty compared with other households. High living costs and limits to single parents’ incomes are another major factor, especially barriers to enter and progress in work and the disproportionate impact of welfare reform. Many single parents do not receive child maintenance from their child’s other parent, while some parents receive some, but not all, of their child maintenance payments. Single parents’ financial difficulties are due to a lack of income, whether barriers to work, unpaid child maintenance or insufficient state support and high cost of living, rather than financial management. Better support is needed to enable single parents to be financially secure in order to provide a decent standard of living for their families, as well as to ensure parents’ broader well-being.
By involving in this campaign, we get the opportunity to become active members of the community and it creates a lasting, positive impact on society at large, as well as providing support to those who need it most with a simple action.
All funds raised through this platform will be handed over entirely to the single mothers at PPR Lembah Subang II.
