PUSAT JAGAAN KANAK-KANAK KURANG UPAYA KIRTARSH
Our home, located in Bukit Beruntung (about 50km from the city center), serves as a place of refuge for our 35 residents who call it HOME.
Our Residents & Their Needs
The majority of our residents live with disabilities such as:
Additionally, we provide refuge to children and elderly with and without disabilities who have been orphaned or abandoned by their families. We currently care for 35 individuals, ranging from 13 years to 76 years old. Among them:
Our Commitment
We also welcome normal children—orphans who have lived on the streets or come from broken, abusive, or single-parent backgrounds, offering them a safe haven. We strive to provide all those in need with:
✅ A loving environment
✅ 4 hot meals a day
✅ Shelter, medication, clothing, and basic necessities
✅ A better and more comfortable life
While we do our best, special training, physiotherapy, and professional care remain unaffordable at our Home. However, we focus on daily living skills training for 20 slow learners and children with Down syndrome.
Challenges We Face
Some of our mentally challenged residents face difficulties in managing their hygiene and defecation, sometimes smearing it on furniture and walls. We lack the resources to provide specialized support for managing such behaviors. Furthermore, fights among residents have resulted in damage to sinks, fans, and furniture.
Additionally, many residents are sent to Kirtarsh because other nursing homes charge over RM1500/month and reject individuals with epilepsy or toilet-related issues. Families frequently leave their disabled relatives here and cease payment after a few visits, forcing us to care for them indefinitely. Some single mothers abandon their babies with us, leaving us burdened with legal paperwork.
Funding Struggles & Support
Despite these hardships, we have been blessed with kind donors who step forward when we struggle to pay bills or buy provisions. Sometimes, we barter excess food stocks for essentials. However, we do not have the manpower to organize fundraising events, relying on private companies to do so for us.
🔹 Our 15-year-old van is heavily used for transporting residents to school, hospitals, clinics, outings, and collecting donations, resulting in high repair and maintenance costs.
🔹 We lack regular financial support from the public or organizations and depend solely on random donations. To raise awareness, we continuously send out appeal letters in the hope of securing help.
Services Provided
✔ Languages: Bahasa Malaysia & English
✔ Vocational Skills: Handicraft training (key chains, color beads, greeting cards, bracelets)
✔ Skill Training: Cooking, house chores, washing clothes, self-help care
Monthly Expenses
💰 The center requires RM24,040 per month to operate.
Income Sources & Financial Struggles
Previously, ⅔ of our income came from souvenir sales made by the special children, and ⅓ came from donations. However, we no longer have a license to sell souvenirs, leaving us entirely dependent on public donations.
Future Plans
🔹 Mr. Manivannan's vision is to acquire the current building under the Kirtarsh name, rather than the house owner's name.
🔹 Secure long-term support for the center and transport facilities.
🔹 Ensure the residents' future stability, making transport to school, clinics, hospitals, and outings more accessible.
