CCO

Formerly known as the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation Chinese Orchestra, City Chinese Orchestra (CCO) has had a steadfast presence in the traditional Chinese music world both locally and abroad since 1974. Over the past four decades, City Chinese Orchestra has presented over 100 concerts, and introduced to audiences numerous Chinese musical genres, styles and artistes. The orchestra’s music director and conductor is Dr Tay Teow Kiat who has led the orchestra since its inception to its stature today. He led the orchestra to Beijing and Tianjin in 1996, Zhengzhou in 2002, Changchun and Beijing in 2007 and most recently, Taiwan (Hsinchu, Taoyuan and Tainan) in 2013. The performance tours were highly successful and well received. Dr Tay is also the President of the Singapore Chinese Music Federation, recently formed in 2014. Although the Orchestra is privy to project grants offered by the National Arts Council (NAC), we still seek external sponsorship in funding our musical activities. Our expenses arise from the costs incurred in inviting professional and renowned musicians from China to perform as soloists, rental of concert halls, instrument maintenance, as well as other ancillary expenses. We are a non-profit organization and our players consist of volunteers who are prepared to put in their personal time and effort to produce good performances.
