Hopes Malaysia is a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) at National Level (Malaysia) based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah focusing on Sustainable Community Development projects to meet the basic needs of the underprivileged, marginalised Sabah community. Since 2016, we have been tackling the worsening poverty issues faced by these vulnerable families - such as Food Insecurity, inaccessibility to Clean Water and the Need for Better Livelihoods.

What We Do:
1) With the gravity feed water system we built in 2017-2019, we are engaging villagers to further use it for small-scale farming through the introduction of diversified crops, seedlings and fish rearing.

2) Enable rural families to grow a variety of fresh produce included fish and chicken for better nutrition intake in their daily diet.

3) Introduce low maintenance farming:
Example 1: use clean and stable gravity water for free
Example 2: use African Night Crawler worms to produce vermicompost fertilisers for free

4) Assist villagers to achieve food self-sufficiency in the long-term

5) Reduce majority of their food cost

6) Environment friendly agriculture practices that moves rural folks away from usage of chemical fertilisers and open-burning organic waste.

7) We also practise zero wastage, as excess produce is being marketed through an online platform (www.hopesmalaysia.com/tamukita), increasing rural families’ per household income.

8) Keep more rural children in school to finish their education

9) Empowering women. Many women folk have joined our project and proven to play vital roles in small-scale farming and rural development. Besides playing the role as housewives, these women farmers are now also contributing to household income.

10) We are fundraising to also expand the water distribution grid to more homes and farm areas; purchase farming tools, equipment and crops seedlings for more rural families to start farming and improving their livelihoods.
