“Fashion for a Social Cause” is a one-of-a-kind platform that showcases models with special needs, born with chronic illness and/ or are cancer survivors.
These special needs persons are with talents which are overlooked by society as their disability is what's empathized.
Started by Founder of Noel Caleb - Miss Eileen Yap in 2015 as part of SG50 activities. Singapore Fashion Runway (SFR) is a Bridge of Possibilities, gathering Singaporeans from all walks of life, working together as part of an all-inclusive community showcasing artistic talents of all special needs community involved. The runway shows attracted some 30,000 visitors in 2015.
The founder of SFR is Ms Eileen Yap, herself a young designer and social entrepreneur. She is the owner of local fashion label “Noel Caleb” and the recipient of the Spirit of Enterprise Singapore Award in 2014 and other multiple nominations.
In 2016, “ Fashion For A Social Cause” became a core element for SFR when Eileen realised that many people with special needs, the chronically ill and others with challenges also harboured the same dreams in the fashion world.
Building on this, SFR partnered with Club Rainbow to groom their beneficiaries – chronically ill children and youths, into runway models and designers. Working also with the National Cancer Centre, SFR groomed their patients, survivors, as well as their doctors and caregivers to be the stars of the runway. Singapore’s very own para-athletics Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh were the runway models for the 2016 SFR show.
2018, the Singapore Fashion Runway dares to dream bigger to bring the concept regional and would require support and funding.
