My plea to everyone who reads this is to have an open heart and hopefully you will help me save this beauty who is part of my family. Last Thursday was a very different day for me. My heart dropped as I opened my front door to see my baby Lexi who is a Black Shepherd standing unstabble and almost dropped to the ground because her 2 back legs could not move.
She is only turning 3 years old this December. She is a very young and hyper active female dog who seeks attention from me at anytime of the day. Last Thursday the 29th of October 2020 I had to carry my dog who was suffering in pain and take her to the animal clinic. At the clinic they did some X-Rays and unfortunately could not confirm the exact issue as a normal X-ray will not show details of the bone. I was hoping she would have dislocated her hips but it is not the issue. However the doctor advised me to take her to the Veterinary Hospital in Petaling Jaya. I called the Hospital and was told that the earliest appointment would be on Monday but I pleaded to check my dog as she was in pain and can't walk and drink. They finally told me to come over but I would have to wait until the appointments are over. I of course said OK. So the same day I had to rush her to Gasing Veterinary Hospital in PJ.
We finally got our turn and Dr Melissa Aw attended to her and did a full check up on her. She checked the X-Ray and said everything looks good however we will need to do an MRI. The doctor said she has Paralysis which can effect both your dog's front or rear legs. The cause of the paralysis can vary greatly depending on the limb it effects. Commonly caused by damage to nerves in the neck or shoulder, or in the radial, median or ulnar nerves in the leg.
The MRI was done the following day on Friday 30th of October 2020 at 2.30pm and then at 5.30pm I finally met with the doctor who only told me that she had bad news. The bad news is Lexi has a very rare case where it could be inflammation fluid, internal bleeding, growth issue and not leaving out tumor. With all this being said I was devastated but still with a hope asked Doctor Melissa what is the next move. And she said they will need to have a 2nd opinion from a Radiologist. Now to get the Radiologist to give their opinion the MRI needed to be sent to them in the US and unfortunately the answer we would get is only on Monday the 2nd of November 2020 which is today as I am writing this.
Today while speaking to Doctor Melissa, I find out that Lexi has most likely a large volume disc extrusion to the left side of the spinal cord which is compressing her bones. Now with all that said Lexi will have to go through a surgery to first of all do an extraction to see if they can handle the issue or if it is worse inside of her. The surgery will be this Wednesday the 4th of November 2020.
Right until now I have spent almost RM3000. I will need a further RM3500 in total for the surgery and hourly chargers during surgery. That is if it is a successful surgery. If there is tumor then again it will be something else to work around and if there is more surgery required. Once Lexi is ok after the surgery by God's will then she will be required to spend a minimum one week in the hospital to recover and be on drips and to gain back her strength with Physiotherapy.
With all this said I am asking for your help to help me save my baby so even if it is a 70% to 80% chance of her walking I am willing to take the risk then knowing she will be paralysed if nothing is done. I do not want her to suffer a long life issue and I am asking for your help to raise this with me so we can pay for her medical bills and for her strength to be back on her feet and then for me to keep helping her regain strength at home with proper equipment if needed.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for even reading and understanding the issue I am going through as I have been hit with this Pandemic Crisis and with all the bills and feeding my family. I will never give up on my dog as well and that is why I have come here to seek for kind hearted souls to help me. I miss my Baby Lexi.
Get well soon Lexi, will pray for her ❤
