On the 10th Jan 2022, I
brought my mom, Lee Oi Hing (63 years old) to visit Gastroenterology Specialist
(Dr Chan Wah Keong) in UMSC (University Medical Specialist Center) after found
out that she has a high tumour marker reading percentage on her colon.
Dr Chan studied the blood test
report and immediately scheduled her to undergo Colonoscopy and CT scan on 12th
Jan 2022 to rectify the actual understanding to the causes. On the same day, he
found there is no issue on her colon but only suffered Haemorrhoids. However, he
still would want to wait for her CT scan result to justify the actual problem
on her.
On her next follow up check-up
with Dr Chan on her CT scan report, there is a lung mass is seen at the apical
segment left upper lobe measuring 1.9x2.9x4.8cm as believed it could be lung
cancer. The doctor immediately referred us to Dr Ernest Poh (Consultant Respiratory
Physician) because he agrees it to be lung cancer.
Upon Dr Ernest’s observation,
he informed that my mom's tumour mass has spread to her spine at C7, T9, T10,
T12, C4, S1 and confirmed it as stage 4 lung cancer. She will have to undergo
an immediate biopsy operation at UMSC to rectify of the cancer cell in order to
get her for further treatment.
Luckily all the above procedures
expenses were able to claimed against my mom's company insurance which only
covered her maximum RM20,000 annually.
On her next follow up check-up
with Dr Ernest on her Biopsy result, he confirmed that she is diagnosed with
Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer which is commonly happened to non-smoker women.
Doctor advised there is oral
medication to treat this cancer and also require injection treatment for her bone
marrow too. Due to our financial situation, we unable to afford the medication fee
as the Company Insurance will not cover for that and my mom does not have her
own Medical Insurance too.
The medication cost approx.
RM66,000 per year (RM5500 per month) to shrink the tumour cell and injection
for her bone marrow cost about RM1500 monthly.
Doctor advised us to treat her fast as we can before the tumour cell in
her spine affect her tissue cells and may leads her not able to walk.
As this cancer has a high
mortality rate, we as family would like to appeal to anyone who will be kind
and help us in raising fund to save my mom's life
We will be extremely grateful
for any kind and generous assistance, big or small just to give my mom second chance
in life.
