Relate Malaysia

Imagine living in a world where 30% of people are suffering from an injury or illness, yet no one dares to speak about it. This is the reality for those struggling with mental health problems in Malaysia.

Founded by Dr. Chua Sook Ning, a passionate clinical psychologist from DJ, Relate Malaysia is on a mission to change this. In the lead up to Relate Malaysia’s founding in 2017, Dr. Chua realised that mental health resources were scarce in Malaysia, and people were afraid to speak up about their struggles due to fear of stigma and discrimination. She knew something had to change.

Despite being told that raising awareness would worsen the mental health stigma in Malaysia, Dr. Chua refused to stay silent, knowing that so many who needed help were unable to access the support they need. She established Relate Malaysia to:

·     Promote mental health as a crucial part of overall well-being

·     Encourage prevention and early intervention programs

·     Develop effective, evidence-based, and accessible treatments

·     Foster community support and services for all in need

·     Advocate for policies that protect patient rights and autonomy

Today, Relate Malaysia is supported by a dedicated team of volunteer medical doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists. They use the gold standard in psychiatric diagnosis, the structured clinical interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5-CV), to ensure accurate evaluation and treatment of mental health conditions.

Did you know that psychotherapy, one of the most effective treatments for mental health issues, can help a person improve more than 79% compared to those who don't receive treatment? At Relate Malaysia, trained therapists work with clients to identify the root causes of their problems and develop healthier thought and behaviour patterns.

But they can't do it alone. Your support is crucial in helping Relate Malaysia continue their life-changing work. By donating, you'll be part of a movement to break the stigma on mental health in Malaysia and ensure that no-one has to suffer in silence.

Together, we can create a society where mental health is prioritised, and everyone has access to the support they need to thrive, when they need it. Join us in making a difference. Donate to Relate Malaysia today.
