RUMAH KELUARGA KAMI

Rumah Keluarga Kami (RKK) is a project of the Conference of the Holy Family, Kajang, Society of St. Vincent De Paul. Rkk a home for underprivileged, abandoned, abused and marginalised children. Its doors opened on 1st June 1990. It started its operations from a rented 2 storey corner residential house.

In 1995, the Conference acquitted a single storey bungalow which could accommodate about 25 children. With the growing number of children seeking admission, the Conference rented another semidetached Single storey house adjacent to the existing premises which became the boys wing, and could accommodate about 15 boys.

In 2008 the Conference acquired a piece of land situated at the rear of the girls wing bungalow at a cost of RM300,000.00. In 2013, the Conference embarked on the construction of a new three storey a new building at a cost of RM1.100M. This new building can accommodate 60 children and has a floor each for boys and girls with respective house mothers live-in.

The construction cost of the new home with its internal fixer and fittings were funded by the spontaneous generosity of Malaysians, the State Government of Selangor, the Malaysian and Japanese Governments, Vincentians from Malaysia & Singapore, Corporate Malaysia, Parishioners of the Holy Family Kajang and friends of the Society.

RKK currently employs an Administrator and an Assistant, three live-in House Mothers, a Handy Man cum Driver and a part-time cook to administer to the daily needs of the children which includes ensuring their attendance at kindergartens and scheduled schools. RKK's audited operating expenditure for the year ended 31st December, 2018 was RM462,652.00. It is gratifying to note that RKK has always provided a safe and secure environment for several hundreds of children who have passed through our doors. Many have gone on to acquire tertiary and vocational qualifications. The milestones that the children of RKK have achieved have certainly impacted our own personal lives and experiences as Vincentians.

The financial sustainability of RKK and the welfare of the children have been the primary concerns of the Conference. In the absence of fixed recurring income, RKK is largely depended on periodic fund raising initiatives, annual government grants, donations cash in and kind educational sponsorship and sponsored meals.

There is so much more that needs to be accomplished and together as a community of people and regardless of what faith we profess we can surely make that difference-a Better Tomorrow for the children in RKK.
