I feel very lucky with what I have and I would like to ask for your help to fulfil my birthday wish of giving our blessings to the less fortunate children and women in Nepal supported by ECDC, the Early Childhood Development Centre. This birthday, I hope to raise USD $10,000 or more to support the Butterfly Nursery Kit and Nutrition Diet packages. With each kit costing USD $550, I hope to fulfil the goal of giving aid to these 2,500 women and child. Will you help me in this cause so that we can help those children living with their mothers in prison with an opportunity for an education, healthy development and stability in life. My Story

In 2015, I had the honour to meet Pushpa Basnet, founder of the non-profit organization ECDC - Early Childhood Development Centre and Butterfly Home in Kathmandu, Nepal.  

In Nepal, if a parent is sentenced to prison and they lack a guardian for their child, the child is imprisoned with the parent too.  Many of these children enter prison at a young age and are later released to the world at age 5, with no life skills or support system, knowing nothing of the world but what they have only experienced inside the prison cell.   

Pushpa Basnet, the 2012 CNN Hero of the year, first started a day care program for these children and later successfully created a permanent home, the Butterfly Home. He runs the ECDC and give kids the chance to live like children and have an education.

Whilst Pushpa can support the kids at ECDC, there are still around one hundred children living with their mothers inside the prison.  To help these kids, ECDC has launched a nutrition diet programme and Butterfly Nursery Kit for women prisons in Nepal.  It provides them with learning opportunities through play methods and reading materials.  Butterfly Nursery Kits are environmentally friendly boxes, which contain wooden toys, various games, children books, learning dolls, art materials and educational supplies.  Nutrition diet packages are provided to support all growing children and nursing mothers who strive to have a well-balanced diet.  This is not a one-time giving; your support will be ongoing for every inmates’ child where a monthly pack of nutrition diet and replacement of the things in butterfly nursery kit box will be provided.  The nutrition package contains 3kg of rice and 3kg of mixed beans per child per month.

ECDC also provides small orientation classes on how to use the products and if used properly, they can last up to 2-3 years.  Every prison should have Butterfly Nursery Kits to improve the children’s early childhood development and to strengthen the rights of children living behind bars with their incarcerated parents.  Under the project, Pushpa plans to cover nearly 2,500 women throughout Nepal and we need your help to make this happen.
