A sobering update.

After four months in the hospital, the doctors are sending 6-year old Raisya to the comfort of her home for what may be her final days with family.

In the last month, this girl braved nights of high fever, chemo, ICUs and surgery to remove an infected spleen. The cancer is aggressive and unfortunately her little body is unable to cope with the medication required.

In all this Farhan and wife have stayed strong as parents who have done the best they can. During our recent chat, Farhan believes there’s still hope. Here’s a father who is fighting till the end.

Yesterday was Raisya's 2nd round of chemo.

It was supposed to be on 1 September. The delay was due to seizures after round one, and the doctors are still investigating the source of the high fever and high blood pressure. While in and out of ICU, they realised the cancer has spread to the brain and nervous system which requires an intensified treatment.

She's a strong girl. Braved through two doses in a day.

Farhan is also recovering well from his eye surgery and they now have a car to move around. But just as things feel like stabilising, another obstacle comes.

Today, his wife who has been staying in the hospital catches Covid-19 from a case within the ward. She needs home quarantine for 2 weeks. Mother-in-law will step in to accompany Raisya until cleared as negative.

What an unusual wave of trials.

Latest news on the little one, Raisya is her name. She is confirmed to have T- Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This cancer is high risk and aggressive, so they have her transferred to Hospital Tunku Azizah (HKL) for immediate treatment.

She has started her first round of chemotherapy today.

On 23 August, Farhan underwent surgery at Hospital Serdang to remove a growth discovered under his eye. He discovered this a week before receiving the news of his daughter’s condition.

His wife is now the primary caregiver for the family, with the support of their parents who have come to help with their eldest daughter left at home as well as other household matters.

In hindsight, it was the car accident that led the family to the hospital for thorough check-ups, which raised health alarms especially for Raisya who suffered injuries from the crash. Otherwise, this could have remained hidden until too late.

While it takes time for silver linings to appear, your simple act of giving is definitely one that helps them hear that help is on the way.
