SimplyGiving on the Road - June 2017
June 2017 marked the month that SimplyGiving officially launched in Thailand. We localised our platform to the Thai language and enabled donations in Thai Baht. SimplyGiving also participated and presented in key fundraising events that were held in Bangkok in the month of June – the Asian Venture Philanthropic Network (AVPN) conference and the International Fundraising Congress Asia (IFC Asia) conference.
On 6 June 2017, SimplyGiving held its first charity briefing in Bangkok, on Crowdfunding for Social Impact. Around 30 attendees ranging from large iNGOs such as Oxfam and UNICEF, to Thai charities and social enterprises attended to engage with Nikki Kinloch, CEO of SimplyGiving, and Cheryl Low, Social Business Director and responsible for working with nonprofits in Thailand.
Nikki Kinloch also spoke on a panel - “Catalysing Investments Through Online Platforms” - at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network conference held in Bangkok on 7-9 June. The AVPN conference is Asia’s largest gathering of philanthropists and social investors. This year’s conference brought together 700 attendees from 32 countries made up of major global and regional investors, such as Rockefeller Foundation, Omidyar Network, Coca Cola Foundation and Tata Trusts, to intermediaries, iNGOs and social enterprises under the theme of “Collaborating for Impact”.
SimplyGiving returned to Bangkok on 26-28 June to play a key role in helping to bring the International Fundraising Congress (IFC) to Asia for the first time. The IFC is the world’s leading fundraising congress and has been held in Europe for the past 35 years. Nikki Kinloch is a member of the IFC Asia advisory panel. IFC Asia is a unique event that brought together global fundraising masters and participants from South East Asia, India, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, UK, US and Africa, SimplyGiving organised a booth at the event, and also presented at a workshop on “The Evolving Landscape of the Social Enterprise Sector in Asia”.
