S.O.S: 'Save Our Shelter' is a campaign to raise funds to build a new shelter for the mangrove seedlings at Kota Kinabalu Wetland Ramsar Site. This 24-hectare conservation area is managed by Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society, a local NGO based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Strategically located at the heart of the city center, this environmental education centre has been part of the community for more than 20 years. Unfortunately, this centre is now facing an uncertain future after having to temporarily close its doors following the COVID-19 outbreak. Apart of losing income, visitors and volunteers, all Environmental Education Programmes are cancelled indefinitely due to the global pandemic. When everything must be put on hold, there is one area that needs to be perpetually maintained -- 'the nursery'. There is a total of 5,000 mangrove seedlings in the nursery which have been raised and handled until they are ready for permanent planting. A proper nursery is important because it does not only produce healthy planting stocks but also a high survival rate when out planted.
The estimated total cost to build a proper nursery with a rainwater harvesting method and solar-powered irrigation system is MYR20, 000 (±USD5,000) and only YOU can help Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society to fulfill its mission. All you have to do is support us, pat yourself on the back for having done a good deed and then go ahead and share this worthy cause with your family and friends. It is not the size of the contribution that matters; what matters is the outcome your giving produces. For more info, you can contact
