Did you know that RM 1 is all it takes to create 5 meals?
'Love Food No Waste' is a fundraising campaign organised by the Clean Our Plate (COP) project from AIESEC in UNMC, where we are raising funds for The Lost Food Project to support their operations and services.
TLFP is a not-for-profit organisation rescuing lost food and giving it to those in need. The idea to rescue “lost food” in Malaysia came about in 2015. So many supermarkets and manufacturers were needlessly sending good food to landfill; meanwhile charities were spending what little they had to buy food or seek sponsorship for food to feed the vulnerable. The opportunity was there to make a big impact, where in February 2016, TLFP signed the first surplus food donation supermarket contract with GIANT.
They ensure our food rescue remains cost-effective by consistently working to secure partnerships with major food suppliers and through fundraising. They've manage to feed thousands of beneficiaries per week, thanks to community spirit and a hard-working volunteer team.
With the cooperation and support of our partners, TLFP rescues tons of surplus food each week and gives it to our charity partners that provide nutritious meals for Malaysia’s most vulnerable people.
Vision
Mission
Tackle some of the biggest issues of today, which is food poverty and environmental sustainability; at the same time, reducing cost for both industry and the government.
How would TLFP use the funds?
It will also be used for combat climate change by preventing food from going to landfills.
Approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted worldwide. According to SWCorp Malaysia, 44.5 percent of the 16,667.5 tonnes of food waste is generated in Malaysia daily. About 24 percent of the total food waste is still edible, with the quantity sufficient to feed 2,970,000 hungry people, three times a day.
Therefore, the project's vision is to eliminate at least 50% of the food waste among youths in Malaysia by 2030 through cultivating responsible consumption habits.
We are dedicated to increase awareness, change attitudes and initiate easy & obvious actions of youth towards reducing preventable food waste & fully utilising food waste, influencing their peers and households.
In the past, COP has conducted both physical and virtual activities, such as awareness workshop, Composting Workshop and others.
